Addison's Disease
Synonym: bronze disease or melanoderma
The destruction of the adrenal glands characterizes this disease by profound asthenia, hypotension, gastric and lumbar pain.
Previously a consequence of tuberculosis, today it is most often of autoimmune origin and certain forms are of genetic origin. The disease begins insidiously with a state of increasing physical and psychological fatigue.
A tan coloring of the skin (melanoderma) manifests itself especially on the exposed parts and on the normally very pigmented areas. There is hypoglycemia, a drop in blood pressure and weight loss.
The plasma cortisol level is collapsed.
