Age-Related Memory Impairments (AMD)
Age-related memory impairment (AMD) is a condition characterized by a decline in memory that accompanies the aging process. At the same time, there is a generalized decline in the ability to perform tasks related to cognitive function such as memorization.
TMLA is different from Alzheimer's disease, which is a neurodegenerative disease and it affects one in 3 people, aged 60 to 80 years.
Changes associated with age include damage, loss of brain volume and death of neurons. Reduced volume of the hippocampus (a brain structure largely responsible for creating memories) is associated with decreased cognitive scores on memory tests.
