Anal Incontinence

Physiological aging reduces the muscular activity of the anal sphincter and the nervous perceptions which allow its control.

The after-effects of trauma are sometimes causes of incontinence (accident, anal or hemorrhoidal operation, laborious childbirth, colonic tumor, homosexuality or anal sexuality, etc.)

Possible neurological causes: paraplegia, spinal cord injury, stroke, dementia, illness of Alzheimer's disease.

Fecal impaction can be responsible for rectal oozing.

Other causes are possible: sectioning of the nerves which control the anal sphincter, fracture of the pelvis (pelvis), congenital anomaly of the anus, side effect of a medication...
