Conjunctivitis
Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the mucous membrane which lines the posterior surface of the eyelids and the anterior surface of the sclera; redness of the eye. It can be due to chlorinated swimming pool water, excess wine, hypersensitivity to light, prolonged work at the computer, cigarette smoke.
or is a sign of hypertension or renal failure.
We can distinguish between bacterial conjunctivitis (pruritus, muco-purulent secretion), viral (profuse tearing), allergic (watering, sneezing), traumatic (painful sensation and photophobia)
Keratitis is the generic name for all inflammations of the cornea. Ultraviolet keratitis manifests itself after a latency of 6-8 hours from UV exposure (sea, mountain) by intense pain, photophobia, pruritus, tearing, blepharospasm (spasmodic contraction of the orbicularis oculi).
