Cystic Fibrosis (CF)

Congenital disease of the exocrine (external secretion) glands which causes the secretion of thick mucus which can block or mutilate the pancreas, lungs and sweat glands. It is the most common genetic disease of childhood. It manifests itself either by an intestinal obstruction (ileus meconial) or by digestive disorders due to pancreatic insufficiency: chronic abundant and fatty diarrhea, or by a pulmonary infection (disease of the glands of the bronchial epithelium). Patients are prone to infections and pneumonia.
