Cysts

A cyst is a cavity that contains a fluid or semi-solid substance that forms in an organ or tissue.

The vast majority of cysts are not cancerous. Some can disrupt the functioning of an organ or cause discomfort or pain.

The formation of cysts is very often linked to an undigested psychological problem:

  • soft cyst (fluid) -> retained tears,
  • hard cyst -> mental "ruminations"

The most common cysts: cyst of the skin (epidermoid or sebaceous), of the wrists (synovial), of the knees (popliteal)

  • in women, of the Bartholin gland (at the entrance to the vagina), of the ovaries, of the cervix, of the breasts.
  • in men: spermatic, renal, of the pancreas, of the prostate, penis, anal canal, testicles, kidneys.

Cysts are usually benign, except cysts of the pancreas or ovary which can more frequently turn out to be cancerous.
