Deafness
Reduction or suppression of hearing.
There is perceptual deafness and conductive deafness. The origin can be multiple: vertebral, vascular, auricular.
Deafness can be due to:
- to a lesion of the cerebral hearing centers: <b>central</b> deafness,
- to a lesion of the auditory nerve: <b>perceptual deafness</b>,
- to a lesion of the middle ear (tympanum, ossicles, etc.): <b>conductive hearing loss</b>.
Problems associated with deafness: earwax, chronic otitis externa, otosclerosis, Menière's disease, hearing trauma, arteriosclerosis,...
