Dystonia
Dystonia is both a symptom - involuntary and prolonged contractions of the muscles of one or more parts of the body - and the name of a group of diseases called "dystonias". Within these neurological diseases, there are 23 forms divided into dystonias:
- focal (localized to a muscle group),
- secondary (linked to a pathology, such as brain trauma),
- genetic (which appear in childhood or adolescence).
Dystonia is chronic, often accompanied by pain unbearable and incapacitated. The physical manifestation corresponds to prolonged involuntary contractions of the muscles often resulting in twisting or distortion of a part of the body.
