Encopresis Or Fecal Incontinence

Incontinence of fecal matter of functional origin, due to loss of control of the anal sphincter. We also say “encopresis”.

Involuntary stools, feeling of insecurity of the rectum, apart from cases of common diarrhea, emotional diarrhea or anorectal abnormality. Encopresis often occurs during sleep.

If it is encopresis in children, look for psychological reasons (anxiety, inhibition, maladjustment, family conflict, etc.)

In adult women, vaginal delivery is an essential etiological factor: rupture of the anal sphincter (internal, external), damage by stretching of the perineal nerves.
