Several names are used to define this pathology: acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, acute idiopathic polyradiculoneuritis, or Landry's ascending paralysis

Characterized by the inflammation of numerous nerve roots with destruction of myelin (lipid substance sheathing the nerve fibers which are part of the composition of the nerves of the cerebrospinal nervous system.  It was considered by ancient anatomists as the spinal cord of the nerves...).

Pains located mainly on the lower body, but can affect the spine, thorax or head, with motor difficulties. Functional impotence and abolition of tendon reflexes.

Damage to the respiratory nerves leads to respiratory distress and requires respiratory assistance. This pathology is sometimes secondary to an infectious or viral disease, Hodgkin's disease or vaccination.
