Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis

The thyroid is the body's clock. Some call it the mother of all glands.

Also called “Hashimoto's lymphomatous goiter”, this autoimmune disease causes the destruction of the thyroid gland by the immune system.

It is observed in women in the premenopausal period. Would be due to the alteration of the thyroid body, caused by antithyroid autoantibodies.

The progression of the disease is towards hypothyroidism.

An allergy to nickel is often observed in people suffering from Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
