Hypercholesterolemia

Cholesterol is a complex lipid produced mainly by the liver. Hypercholesterolemia is an increase in the total cholesterol level in the blood, above 2.80 g per liter.

Excess calcium may be responsible.

HDL (“good cholesterol”) should normally have a level of (variable depending on sex):

  • 0.40 to 0.70 g / liter (1 to 1.8 mmol / liter) in in men,
  • 0.50 to 0.75 g / liter (3 to 4 mmol / liter) in women.

The drop in this rate indicates “lipid clogging” since hepatic purification is carried out less well. The atherogenic risk increases.
