Tetanus: Nicolaïer bacillus (Clostridium tetani)

Disease characterized by painful contractures beginning in the masticatory muscles then spreading to all the muscles of the body (neck, trunk, limbs). The agent is an anaerobic bacillus developing in soiled wounds (earth, plant debris, etc.) and acting through a toxin, tetanospasmin, which reaches the nerve centers.
