Insufficient Erection / Erectile Dysfunction

Erection is a state of swelling and hardening by the influx of blood into the vessels of the penis.

Erectile dysfunction is a state of the penis which remains flacid, prevents reaching or maintaining sufficient stiffness and makes the sexual act impossible. These may be warning signs of cardiovascular problems.

The causes of erectile dysfunction are multiple:

medication: medications against hypertension, epilepsy, depression, stomach ulcers, Parkinson's, hypercholesterolemia and anticancer chemotherapy,

surgical: conditions of the nerves and arteries (prostate surgery, bladder, intestine or rectum),

hormonal: affection of the sexual glands, thyroid, pituitary gland, adrenals,

vascular: atherosclerosis, venous lesions - neurological: paraplegia, Parkinson, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), polyneuritis, trauma pelvic,

urological: tumors, urogenital infections.

Peyronie's disease: disease sometimes associated with Dupuytren's disease. A sclerotic infection causes the penis to curve at the time of erection.
