Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Syndrome (MCS)
Since 1970, the notion of multiple chemical sensitivity has been the subject of publications even if there is vagueness on the definition and multiplicity of causal agents and the polymorphism of symptoms.
It involves intolerance to agents that can be described as environmental: paints, varnishes, perfumes, exhaust gases, cooking odors, mold (in cupboards, carpets, mattresses, bathrooms), pesticides, laundry detergents…
- radon sometimes constitutes a serious problem in certain homes,
- asbestos is a fiber present in a wide variety of domestic products (roof insulation, etc.),
- wood heating releases hundreds of toxic substances into the air (carbon monoxide). carbon, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds and other irritants)
These substances are associated with the aggravation of certain diseases. The clinical manifestations are multiple: asthenia, rhinitis, sinusitis, conjunctivitis, edema, inflammation around the eyes and nose, nausea, dyspepsia, headache, sleep disorders, difficulty concentrating, memory failure, bronchospasms, joint, tendon, muscle pain, muscle weakness, itching of the skin and mucous membranes...
Electrosensitivity is added to other factors of aggression environmental.
