Polycystic Kidney Disease (PMr)
Polycystic kidney disease is an inherited disease characterized by the development of multiple fluid-filled cysts in the kidneys. These cysts, varying in number and size, reduce the ability of the kidneys to function normally. This disease is the 4th cause of kidney failure.
Parents transmit the disease to their children through two genes. The diagnosis is usually made from an ultrasound of the kidneys.
Symptoms and consequences:
- back and flank pain (between the ribs and bronchi), tenderness in the abdomen,
- presence of blood in the urine,
- presence of cysts in other parts of the body (especially liver and pancreas),
- abnormality of the heart valves,
- edema of the feet and hands,
- urinary tract infection, etc.
