There are risks:
- on the <b>fetus</b>: increased risk of miscarriage, premature birth, delayed development of the fetus, lower than normal weight at birth,
- on the <b>child</b>: irritation of the eyes, nose, throat, increased frequency of nasopharyngitis and otitis, risk of seizures asthma and bronchitis, increase in sudden infant death
- in <b>adult</b> (who lives with a smoker): heart attacks + 25%, lung cancer + 25%
Exposure to passive smoking affects reproductive cells and can therefore affect offspring (study by a team from the University of Ottawa led by Carole Yauk - 2010)
