Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus
Spina bifida (SB): Malformation consisting of a crack in the spine, due to a lack of fusion of one or more vertebral arches and through which herniates, in the form of a tumor, the meninges, sometimes the marrow and a certain quantity of cerebrospinal fluid. There are several types of SB: myelomeningocele, meningocele, SB occulta.
Spina bifida is the most common neural tube defect (NTD)
Hydrocephalus: Effusion of cerebrospinal fluid into the cavities of the cerebral ventricles or, outside the brain between the meninges, sometimes causing an increase in volume of the skull.
