This disease was formerly called “mongolism”, because of the characteristic shape of the eyes and face. Disease characterized by mental retardation and physical deformities. Caused by a chromosomal anomaly.

There is a delay in physical and intellectual development presenting learning difficulties.

The presence of oxidized methionine would be involved (work by Nunomera et al. - 1999)
